TORQUEREPORT

Reviews, buying guides, and the real cost of owning a car

About Torque Report

Torque Report launched in 2019 as a two-person operation testing used crossovers out of a rented garage bay in Columbus, Ohio. We're bigger now — six staff writers, a long-term test fleet of eleven vehicles, and a standing account with three regional tire installers — but the mission hasn't changed: tell people what a car actually costs to own, not just what it costs to drive off the lot.

That means we spend as much time on insurance quotes, loan math, and $40 maintenance jobs as we do on 0-to-60 times. A review that skips the ownership cost isn't a complete review, in our opinion.

How We Test

Every vehicle we review spends a minimum of five days and 150 miles with a staff editor before a word gets written. Fuel economy figures are our own, logged by hand against the trip odometer and cross-checked against the dash readout. Where we quote insurance premiums, parts prices, or loan rates, we pull them directly from insurer rate tools, retailer listings, or lender disclosures on the date noted in the story, using a consistent driver or buyer profile across every comparison so the numbers are apples to apples.

Editorial Standards

Torque Report is reader-supported. Some links in our buying guides are affiliate or lead-generation links, meaning we may earn a commission if you request a quote or make a purchase through them. That relationship never determines which products we recommend or how we rate a vehicle — our testing methodology and ranking criteria are set before we know which retailers or lenders will end up in the story. Any paid placement is labeled as such.

We do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review, and manufacturers do not see a story before it publishes.
